The Feather's Hotel has been an
important part of Holt, since it
was established on the site of the
old cattle market in 1650.
During the 19th Century the 'Regulator'
coach used to depart from the Hotel,
three times a week, for the fourteen
hour journey to London.
Around that time the first landlord,
Mr Cubitt Cooke, was visited by
an author named Peter Bull. So
impressed was he, that he wrote
a poem (which you can still see
in the bar), which ended:
|
"In fact it's a place to
which your heart tethers,
so good luck to the host
of the jolly old Feathers" |
We are proud of hosting the good
people of Norfolk and weary travellers
for nearly 150 years and we look
forward to welcoming you to
The Feathers.
